Baby Prop C is in danger. There are currently proposals being introduced without community input to take Baby Prop C money away from our infants and toddlers so that the City and County can balance the budget:

Make a change to the way Prop C is taxed so that big businesses get tax exemptions and don’t have to contribute to our child care community or pay into Baby Prop C, the SF Controller states this will decrease annual child care revenue by $17 million
Reduce the amount of money the city is legally obligated to invest in child care from $92.7 million each year to $72.7 million for the 1st year and $82.7 million for the 2nd year. This will be a $30 million cut to child care funding over the next two years

All together, that's nearly $150 million that's being directed away from child care.

The voters of San Francisco were clear in 2018 when they voted to pass this ordinance: Baby Prop C is dedicated funding for children ages 0-5 to support their most critical period of growth and development and build access to high-quality care and education creating a lasting impact on their future success and well-being.

Subject: Stand Up to Protect Baby Prop C!

Message:

Hello, We need you to vote NO on both proposals introduced regarding Baby Prop C. As a San Franciscan and child care advocate, I am concerned about the future of our Baby Prop C and our children and families. In 2018, we rallied at City Hall in support of Baby Prop C, to create a dedicated fund for our historically underfunded and under-resourced child care system and educators. Later that year, the voters of San Francisco made their voices heard, passing Baby Prop C at the ballot box and giving hope to families and child care providers across the city. And again on June 6th, just a few days ago, hundreds of community members showed up at City Hall to rally and make public comment to the Board opposing the proposed changes to Baby Prop C. These changes threaten to take away $150 million from our infants and toddlers, balance the City's budget on the backs of babies, and usurp the voice of the electorate by changing a voter-approved ballot initiative. At the very least, these changes should require a robust period of community input rather than being done behind closed doors. Additionally, the Mayor's proposed budget shows a 13% cut to the Department of Early Childhood, the biggest cut to any City department. Funding for early care & education supports children ages 0-5 during their most critical period of growth and development, builds access to high-quality care and education and creates a lasting impact on the future success and well-being of our children. On behalf of parents, families and the infants and toddlers who cannot speak for themselves across San Francisco, I ask that you stand up to protect Baby Prop C this budget season and to not entertain either proposal. Thank you
